Having conquered Scopas, Antiochus took Batanaea,B. C. 200. Antiochus conquers Coele-Syria and the Jews after beating Scopas at Panium. See supra, ch. 18. Samaria, Abila, and Gadara; and after a while those of the Jews who inhabit the sacred town called Jerusalem submitted to him also. On the subject of this town I have a good deal more to say, and especially on account of the splendour of its temple, but I shall put it off to another opportunity.
